so there was this girl...

In other news, here's a funny story...
so me and my friends have been frequenting this american style coffee/book shop on sunday evenings. They have live jazz there on Sundays as well. so I got an eye for the girl that sings jazz in english. So after about 4 times there, I decided to try and talk to her and see if she actually spoke english or if she just memorized the songs.

I worked up the courage and as she was passing by our table on break, I stopped her. I tried to talk to her in Russian, but she quickly shot me down as she said in english, "let's talk in english cause your pronounciation is horrible". So that sucked in front of all my friends, and I basially felt shot down. She suggested that we speak after the set. Then she blew off talking to me. Welp, I'm a loser and I can't even talk to a girl without getting all nervous and butchering my Russian...beautiful.

Well, we kept going back every week and she eventually apoligized for not talking to me and thanked all of us for being regulars. And then she did something fairly unexpected. She invited us to go to Salsa night at a music club where she sang with another band.

No one else wanted to go, so I went with her down there. It was a pretty rockin' good time, but we didn't really get a chance to talk much. But it was still cool cause I met the bass player who was Russian, but who lived in Winston-Salem the same time I did and played all the same clubs there that we did. He now lives in kiev. It was crazy meeting this guy in a random club and talking about Winston-Salem! Pretty sweet.

Christmas and new year happened so I didn't see her for like 3 weeks.

Cut to last week. I go to "Babuin" (Baboon in Ukrainian, the name of the coffee shop) and see her again. She asks me to go to salsa again. So after the show, I am waiting for her and she comes out with this other girl with a really short haircut, and they are holding hands.... so that got me thinking. We started walking and it was clear that the girl was drunk and she was kinda kissing on the jazz singer girl. so basically I'm walking behind them thinking..."what the heck...is she a lesbo? Why do I have a crush on a lesbo?"

Then the drunk girl said goodbye and walked down a different street to go home. Then jazz girl told me about how this girl was counselor and how she was gay and how she lived in a lesbian commune of sorts just down the street, etc., etc.

So I"m thinking jazz girl might still be gay.

But then she started talking about how she doesn't have anything against "that" but that she has a boyfriend and that they live together, etc., etc.

At this point, I am not even disapointed that my crush is telling me that she is living with her boyfriend, I am just relieved that she is not a lesbian.

So within about 5 mins this girl went from "my crush", to "probable lesbian", to "some other dude's girlfriend". A very confusing 5 mins, all in all.

I actually wasn't all that dissapointed, because after I found out that she wasn't a Christian (a few weeks earlier), I started to ask myself if I really wanted to date someone with whom I couldn't connect on a spiritual level. The crush level dropped down a few notches after that.

Anyway, we actually had a pretty good talk on the way to the salsa club and I can see that she has a very beautiful heart. She's really interesting and I look forward to getting to know her and the rest of the "Salsa Kings" that she sings with. I'm even intersted in getting to know her boyfriend...who is quite a kick-ass pianist.

So it's pretty funny....this game called life. I'm just glad I'm not sitting on the bench.

Also, this picuture was taken on the same night I tried to talk to this girl... I'm pretty sure it was just a coincidence that I got shot down...yeah...definitely a coincidence...
